Death Battles are about two people trying to kill each other, not falling in love or simply wanting to bone each other. There is zero homoerotic subtext in death battles, unless you're the kind of person that actually gets off on that kinda stuff... The rest of your explanation is mere speculation that is dependent on the possibility of Sakurai seeing yaoi and thinking something other than, "I'm going to stay away from this site for a while...".

"No, none of that, shame on you" is my general reaction to fangirls and their incomprehensible thought processes. Those two characters can only interact through combat in the game and are incapable of having any kind of interaction beyond trying to beat the living shit out of each other or working together to beat the shit out of other people. Give me an in depth and thorough analysis of how they are meant for each other. The explanation is not allowed to be shallow or have anything to do with their physical appearance ("they look cute together" is a shallow explanation). Character interactions, the feelings they convey through those interactions, things of that level and deeper must be a part of that explanation. I will only accept rational logic and in game facts!
