You know, usually I despise women characters too. In almost all the books or fanfics, it's male dominant, and then a sexy-powerful-Jedi/Sith-attractive girl pops and the main characters or even other men fall in love with her. They are "Mary-Sue".

BUT Etain is not like that. I'm not a fan of her, but I like the fact that she's not a good Jedi, she's not powerful at all, she has a lot of doubts... I wouldn't like a character like Mara Jade who's a sexy powerful Jedi even at 55 years old but looks like a 20-years-old in the comics just to make fanboys drool, or twi'lek characters like Aayla Secura who is more dressed as a bitch than a Jedi, etc. I hate Laseema, for example, and I hate Atin, because he's the dark-mysterious-tortured-cliché man who has no tastes in women and goes out with the first bitch who seduces him.And Laseema is the cliché of the superficial woman who's attracted by any strong man with scars.

So for me, Etain is not that sexy-attractive type of character, she's not created for male readers, and I think it's a good thing :XD: even if I don't like when clones go out with anyone. (ALL MINE!!!! *psychopath laugh* :XD: )

It's really hard for me to like female characters in books, and because of that it is a little tricky for me to write them. I don't like all-powerful girls, but then I don't like the kinds that act all humble and innocent and have lots of faults and doubts and can do no wrong. Because of both Etain and Mara Jade, I couldn't get through the second book of both of those series. I am soooo picky and stubborn. But, there was this one "Dark Knight" fanfic I wrote where I had a female character as one of the MCs, and I soon began to enjoy writing about her, so I did a sequel. Yes, that character had doubts and had gone through a couple traumatic events, but she was also strong and determined. When things went bad, she would at least TRY to fight back and defend herself, even if it didn't provide any results. I guess sometimes I just like my characters better than ones other people make . . . It's weird . . .

So you didn't read Heir to the Empire (the trilogy, I mean?) Mara was ok in those books, you should read them, because Thrawn (the villain) is fantastic, I LOVE this character :XD:

I did read Heir to the Empire, then the second book, but only got halfway through that. It's weird, with both the HttE and RC series, female characters made me give up halfway through the second book.

So you would hate the New Jedi Order books, I couldn't read more than the first book because of a female character: Jaina Solo! she's so "little princess always perfect doing crazy things and very powerful Jedi whom everybody admire and venerate", that's so boring! I can't stand her. But I like Leia. She's intellgent but serious and never tries to show-off.

Wow, that Jaina person sounds like the spitting image of a "Mary-Sue"! O_o

But, yes, Leia is awesome! =D

Jaina IS Mary-Sue herself! even worse than that. In some books some people call her "goddess" or believe she's one, or something like that... x_x

Wow, that's the worst and most blatant use of Mary-Sue I've ever heard of . . . O_o
