Nice. I always loved this variety of weapon. And I've always loved Gundams so yeah... *Does a little dance.*
The ver.2 would be one with a functional reversable handle but it's not built as of current.
The short of how i built these is skill saw, layers of 1/2" thick plywood and the template I put here [link]
From experience, make only the blade 1/2 ply and the remaining layers a thinner ply or cardboard covered in in your choice of filler.

Rember, keeping a clean workshop is the surest way to prevent accidents like those depicted in the "Saw" movies from happening.
