That's what they call a shoto (or short lightsaber). I believe it's something they came up with way back in the original Star Wars comic book. It's used to counter the advantage the lightwhip has over a single-bladed lightsaber. It was Mara's main weapon during her fight with Jacen in "Sacrifice" (still upset they didn't let her use a regular lightsaber ) but I thought of way to use it during my version of the Mara/Jacen duel.
