Actually, if you really paid attention to the game and played it through, Amaterasu and Shiranui are the same being. Shiranui was only a name given to Amaterasu by the villagers. This is evident, clearly, with each brush you acquired (By means when you gain a new power, when it hits Ammym you see a flicker of her true self). And of course at the very end when you have all of the brushes, she is her true self, which is how Shiranui looked.. Amaterasu's true form.
