Yeah I wikipedia'd it and turns out cultures around the world use various lichens to dye things with, I think they boil it in water and ash to bring out the various colors, traditional kilts are dyed with lichen ooze... Thanx4 the comment! :D

I don't know why but whenever I see things like lichens I just want to squish them between my fingers.

For the most part these lichens are really dry to the touch, there only worth the touch if there wet. There's even these lichen that are hair like and cover every dead pine tree around, I'm sure you've seen them, there world wide.
Studying lichens I found they could be used as food if boiled with ash, as a dye in scotish circles, and a source of antibiotics in russia...

If I remember my mother correctly... I think you can make a purple dye from this to color wool with. :?
