lol. We're working on it, slowly but surely. We can get to wifi stations, so it's fine. What bugging me is that it refused to play DVDs and MP3 files. The sound card must be fine though, because it makes the happy login sound.

Nah, my Ubuntu is twice what other Ubuntu's are. Mine has mystical amazing enchanting PLUGINS :|

I'm not on MSN because well I don't do that usually. I'm not a chatter head. Although I'll keep my eyes peeled for your username now that I know you're still around. Right now I'm technically working...err...avoiding washing my boss's giant car. It's a really big muddy car.

XD Plugins, lol. I've got it installed on my laptop, but because it can't get online to install updates there's a lot that needs tinkering. Sound driver's off, I reckon.

When no wifi, you can do two things. First is cable it into the Router for Internet; so maybe an update will enable wifi.

Second is look through tons o' forums until you find a wifi fix. Ubuntu and wifi...yeaaaa...problematic. You could also buy a USB wifi adapter that says Linux on it, there are actually a number of those.

Most people would rather not use Ubuntu when it doesn't immediately detect the wifi... But I encourage some investigation and using the many Ubuntu chat rooms (on a pc with Internet) to ask questions.

When my PC's have no Internet, I port the updates from an Internet PC to the broken PC by using a USB thumb drive. I wouldn't be sure how to do this in your situation.

If you know the name of your wifi adapter inside the laptop, I could do a search for ya. Sometimes you just need the windows driver and load that into Ubuntu because it can understand many windows wifi drivers.

That is assuming wifi is the problem at all. If not, you're screwed. :P

Wifi's not the problem. XD I'm hooked up on the university's Resnet [ethernet] landline cable on the main PC, but the port is locked down if a different computer is plugged into the line. So I can't just link the laptop in. I can find different wifi systems, but none of them are free. Best I've done so far is hack into a wifi connection that I can only access from a nearby cafe. But that'll do the trick for now.

Wifi isn't problem? Oh this is bad indeed. Oh dearest me. Oh my...

Uhm why the schmoogle is the port locked down when it reaches just one PC? That is weird and counterproductive. Sometimes though you can share their internee connection if you USB up to their computer. I just don't know if Ubuntu does that.

Perhaps two things you could do..
1. use a wifi router so the cable might not know its running to two computers.
2. invite me over to watch tv!
