Practice indeed. All things considered, I'm not all that displeased with this given that I didn't use a reference and it's the first time I've tried something like this with traditional media. With a digital painting like Edouard, I had endless re-do opportunities, ya know?

I eye the acrylics from time to time, but lacking a permanent workplace, the portability of watercolors is an advantage to me right now.

Thanks for the comment!

I think acrylics might be better for you in early stages, they're far easier to layer. I know I far prefer acrylic to watercolour, I can never get the right shading or definition in the latter. You did such a great job of digitally colouring Edouard, go back and look at the subtleties of that painting as a reference. For the few times I have painted, I've never done so without reference for the main focus of the picture (even if I then changed and heightened it to expressionism).

Practice practice practice. :)
