I agree the ending left things hanging. HOWEVER, as much as I ship Cain/DG HARD, I think it's too unrealistic for them to kiss at the end. In less than a week, Cain thinks his family is dead, then is led to believe they're alive, THEN finds his wife's grave.
SOOOO, I do believe Cain and DG will get together, but I think it would be a year at most before they are ready to take their friendship to the next level. At least that is how I interpret it in my WIP Fanfic
