These cuff links belonged to the Prince Malthazar, eldest son of the King. They were a gift to him, from his father; no harm could come to him, while he wore them, for the enchantment the continuum wizards had placed upon them was strong indeed. And so it was that Malthazar wore them everywhere he went; even to the great ball, where he was to choose a wife. He left the dance floor in the company of the young Princess Telestia, daughter of the King's most powerful rival. She lured the prince away, with promises of pleasure and passion, strong heirs, and a life of love. In the prince's chambers, he delighted as he watched her dance; he kissed her body, as she stripped the clothes from him; and when his chest was bared and his precious cufflinks stripped from him, she plunged a golden stiletto into his heart. His shout brought the guards, too late; the next day, Telestia was hanged, and so began the great war.
