Fanart can be real art it depends what you do with it. If you are coping existing scenes or pose than no, but If you are creating your own and doing as a homage than yes.

To me, if it's a form of art, then it's real art. Fanart is a form, hence it's real. But I don't get into anything deep like that; bascially to me anything that's classified as being art is art.

As for the picture: it's really good. ^^ I like the form and color and such, and the serenity the character is in.

Fan Art is art when you take someone else's characters or art and make something original with it. Then it's a fan art.

Fan art is ok as long as you make your own poses and even make your own interpretation of a character if it's from a book or a story, or why not, from movies or cartoons.

If you copy something as you saw it somewhere....that has no point unless you are learning to draw, but i would never post something i've drawn if i copied it from somewhere else, doesn't matter how good it is.



you need to learn anatomy, i know how it feels when someone tells you this, but it's true, try not to hurry what you are drawing, take rests, then work again, but try not to feel comfortable with your drawing until you worked at least two hours on it.


Try to make it again, and again, until you feel good with it. Do not feel you did enough just with 10 minutes or half an hour unless it's a sketch.

Compare and never feel bad if you are not pleased with what you did, that's what makes us learn more and more. I didn't start drawing like i do when i was 5 years old, it took me a looooong time to draw the way i do and i'm still not pleased, but i have fun with it you know? the moment is not funny, then is not for you.

I love to learn and i recently got into a place where the best artists are, not because i'm one of them, not at all, but because i want to be like them and i will, it will take time but i will and i'm happy that i started, otherwise my dreams wont become real. Draw at least two to four hours a day. Grab anything you have around and draw it, over and over again.

Hmm. Usually, I prefer original art over fan art.
It takes very little imagination to take a character that you've seen before, give it a different pose, color it in and call it a fan art. :I
I particularly dislike people who draw NOTHING BUT fanart, who are just basically (in my opinion) parasites leeching off of others' creativity and imagination and giving forth no real creative effort of their own.

A little bit of fan art is fun, but to do it all the time...ewww.
I personally think it would be really boring, too. I mean, half the fun of drawing is making up the stuff you draw! Dx

So really, fan art is ART, but it's not a particularly impressive form of art. :I
I mean, on DA you'll probably get loads of pageviews and etc from doing piles of it, but in the real world it's essentially useless. D:

I think you somewhat misunderstand what actual fanart, or homage art is... Other then when it's done for just sheer amument, (that is good.) I also believe it's misused, and simply created sometimes without proper intent, and I can easly see why that would surely blur you or anyone's view of it. Fanart is a class of art that is populer, because it is images of others creations that hold meanings, often deep, that has inspired us through our individual lives, it's sharing the creations of others and raising and respecting them even more. At core, as well as done with the right actions in mind - fanart is eqile to any other class of art, including original, but of course, everything has it's place, and time, and I think both would not be as effective without balance between the two.

I'm not trying to insult your comment or opinions in any form, I hope you understand... I encourage you to hold on to prefering original over homage, it's very admirable to me, that is no lie. Everyone has a right to support what one enjoys as long as there's no harm. But with that in mind - I hope you don't misunderstand us homage artists, with the want-to-be-famous-on-website-fanart-abusers.

Well, I don't want to copy the others excellent comments here, but I will say, rounding every fact up - it's simply just another type of art, as any around. It just depends on what you do, and where/how you display it that counts on how it's accepted.
