well vectors are like...
when you drawn an image in photoshop or paint or something it uses pixels to create the entire image, whereas vectors use lines and curves. If you were to zoom in on two of the same images, one raster based the other vector based, the vector image will zoom in clear and distinguishable where as a raster image will get you a garble of pixels that are used to make the zoomed out image look like a curve.
