It's wrong to say that they make dumb people dumber... their tactics work on extremly intelligent people too. They can catch you in a way that you don't know you entered Scientology for years. When you find out, you think that you got so much usefull advice for your life from there, that Scientology can't be so bad at all. That really impressed me when I read that in Ursula Caberta's "Black Book Scientology"
I also think it's wrong to say you can't do anything against it. Their methods only work on people who aren't well infromed about their true nature, so, you are absolutely right there, you have to get people to find out the truth. For that you have to build up awareness. That works best with the media and - protests, because they tend to attract the media. People won't listen much if they haven't heard about it somewhere allready. I think protest was a good first step to get people to start thinking about that theme, and I regret I didn't take part.
