I can add, subtract, multiply and divide just fine, but I'd rather have a calculator do it for me. =P

I suppose you could say it is, but I've never played D&D before. =P It's just a picture to hide things behind.

Ahh, okay :D I used to play DnD quite a lot, but I was never any good.

I wanted to when I was younger, but now that I'm older and have friends who play, the it seems kind of annoying to keep track of your stats and stuff. @_@ Isn't that what computers are for? (Not saying you should play on a computer, but why aren't there little calculators for that yet? And heck, we're nerds, why don't we all have graphing calculator applications for that?) =P

It's half the fun. It's like the buzz normal people get from camping, working things out by hand.

I know I took differential equations for fun, but that doesn't seem to make sense to me at all. @_@;

You know, the satisfaction of doing it all yourself?
Bypassing all the computer stuff and just using raw logic+imagination.

DnD is like mixing a video game and a story book. All of the game itself exists in the players mind, but there are statistics and logic to back up what's happens. The satisfaction isn't just in playing the game, but also understanding it. Understanding modifiers, updating character sheets with new skills etc. It's all hard work, but great fun. The actual math involved isn't enough to warrant a calculator, but some of the statistics and management required can be quite a task. I wrote some cool VB apps when I started coding to help with DnD management, like digital character sheets, dice rollers, and started a cool map utility. I don't play much anymore, but I would if someone else would.
