Direi che come metodo di pittura digitale è ottimo, ma la texture stona un po'. Non dà l'effetto di carta invecchiata perché è applicata (forse in 'moltiplica', se usi photoshop) solo alle zone di luce, scurendole, e non alle superfici nere. Non rende nemmeno l'idea di una superficie rugosa perché è applicata uniformemente.
In questo senso forse hai ragione a scartarla. Forse applicata in maniera più leggera sarebbe più incisiva, ma a quel punto ti consiglierei di provare con un leggero tocco di disturbo monocromatico. Non so se lo hai notato ma spesso si usavano pellicole a grana grossa nei film horror proprio per l'atmosfera densa che conferivano all'immagine.
