It's very true. I was generally warmer in London though ... I think the smog does it. Keeps the city warm.

I love the way you describe things. After reading this, I now have a pretty good idea what winter feels like. I've never really experienced winter; it's either rain or sun here, where I live.

The plurals here caught my attention upon re-reading, however:

I wear layers and layers of unfamiliar clothes: stockings, vests, gloves, scarves, hats, long jackets, even thermal underwear. -- does your narrator wear more than one vest in the layering? More than one jacket? (the rest make sense).
