And I do like v6's category links on the left, so maybe that would be handy in your concept

Asides from that, I think it's looking good . I like the darker search box and the lighter text on quite a few things (great for people with eyesight issues such as myself). Plus the icon-only thing in the navigation bar really helps, because right now, I can only fit 2 toolbar items in, and can't really see a way to shrink it all down. Perhaps I smell a v6 deviantTIDY fix?

Now for the critique. Would you click on the - or + to minimize/maximize the sections (e.g, if you wanted to see DDs but not Popular)? It looks like if you click on them, it would only take you to that specific browsing category. Other than that, it looks good.

I think it might help if the +'s and -'s on the left had a little box or circle around them to show that they're clickable and not just text.

But yes, this definitely looks better than v6. That green is killing me.
