You mean the HDR effect? Ideally you would take several (maybe 6) exposures of the same scene, all at different degrees of over and under-exposure, and then mere them in a photo software, so you get the detail of both the highlights and shadows. I don't have a tripod so I kind of faked it by taking the photo in RAW, then using Adobe Camera Raw (comes with photoshop CS2 and above I think) to change the exposure. I then save the image again with different exposures, and merge each of the edited ones. I doubt the effect is as good as if I had actually taken 6 photos, but it's nice.
