The back picture was its own layer which I used a mask and a gradient on to fade out the bottom.

okay...where do u go to use masks?

In Photoshop you can apply a mask to a layer by clicking the mask button in the layers panel. It should be at the bottom of the panel - a gray square with a white circle in the center. Once you have a mask, you can use a black and white gradient or the brush to mask out areas of the layer :]
