It's funny because this sculpture actually got me the job to help design Godzilla for the movie. I was brought in early on to make several concept sculptures, this particular one being the base for most of my designs. From there it went to many others, then back to me, which I got to mess around with as well which you can see here :
fritofrito.deviantart.com/art/… this was the last official maquette I helped design and sculpted as part of my job with Legendary.
Now on the topic of fatzilla. Godzilla has always had the thunder thighs...in fact he mainly looked like he had rolls of fat hanging from every joint in his body. Just look at Godzilla 1985, he was HUGE and chunky. They slimmed him down a bit for biollante, but even in destroyer vs Godzilla he went back to his thunder thigh self. I think it's part of his charm that he's so weirdly big. Plus it was mainly to hide the actor. If you ask me the best one they did was the one for Godzilla, Mothra, Ghidora all out monster attack. He looked so evil in that. Loved it.
When originally I set out to design him, I was automatically thinking I wanted a fast and agile Godzilla, I still think that one that could run, jump and make fast turns would be an awesome site to behold. Imagine some of those classic kaiju battles but with slimmed down monsters that could seriously run across an entire city with a few steps. that'd be awesome if you ask me.
