We live in a fucked up society if even Godzilla is judged for his body size. If he was skinny, I'd be even less inclined to believe those bones could support his mass.

Stop trying to put politics into Godzilla with the "fat shaming" BS. Fat gargantuan thighs that wiggle like jello make less sense then something fictional with more human dimensions.

You don't have to be a fat ass to "make realistic sense". Look at T-Rex. Did it have fat thighs and plop around like a crocodile because it was 5-8 tons and 40 feet long?

He doesn't need to look skinny.  The Heisei Godzilla managed to be bulky while still appearing as though the bulk was muscle rather than flab.  Not so with the G'14 design.  I'd have loved if that movie had just made a CGI version of the design from Godzilla vs. Biollante or something, which would have looked a lot better.

It's funny because this sculpture actually got me the job to help design Godzilla for the movie. I was brought in early on to make several concept sculptures, this particular one being the base for most of my designs. From there it went to many others, then back to me, which I got to mess around with as well which you can see here : fritofrito.deviantart.com/art/… this was the last official maquette I helped design and sculpted as part of my job with Legendary.

Now on the topic of fatzilla. Godzilla has always had the thunder thighs...in fact he mainly looked like he had rolls of fat hanging from every joint in his body. Just look at Godzilla 1985, he was HUGE and chunky. They slimmed him down a bit for biollante, but even in destroyer vs Godzilla he went back to his thunder thigh self. I think it's part of his charm that he's so weirdly big. Plus it was mainly to hide the actor. If you ask me the best one they did was the one for Godzilla, Mothra, Ghidora all out monster attack. He looked so evil in that. Loved it.

When originally I set out to design him, I was automatically thinking I wanted a fast and agile Godzilla, I still think that one that could run, jump and make fast turns would be an awesome site to behold. Imagine some of those classic kaiju battles but with slimmed down monsters that could seriously run across an entire city with a few steps. that'd be awesome if you ask me.

I had no idea you were hired to help design Godzilla for the reboot.  That's awesome!  Though sadly it's now even more of a shame they didn't go with something in the vein of this sculpture now that I know they had every possible opportunity to do so.

I've got no problem whatsoever with a bulky Godzilla; the design from Godzilla vs. Biollante is tied for my all-time favorite, and the GMK design you mentioned ranks high up there as well.  But even the chunkiest of the chunky past Godzillas have absolutely nothing on the Legendary version.  Compare a profile view of the design from Godzilla 1985 2.bp.blogspot.com/-oTsqb2wLiMA… to that of the reboot www.blackgate.com/wp-content/u….  Like a lot of things in the new Godzilla, I admire what they were going for, but they took it way too far.
