I almost always get the fire types in the pokemon games, they're just usually the coolest. Feraligatr and Typhlosion were pretty close in coolness though. 
I didn't like Feraligatr at first, but he's grown on me, ever since I started working on SoL.
I usually take the fire-types too, although D/P was the first generation in which I preferred the grass-type to the fire-type. It was weird.

The only one I didn't like in D/P was the water starter. All of it's evolutions looked stupid.
Lol. Some people really like it though. Not me, but still. 
It's just too gaudy. 
Lol. The final form looks a little silly with that crown thing on its head. XD
Yeah. I always thought that was kinda weird. And how is it steel type?
I dunno. Maybe is has steel edges on its flippers?
