Well I have both but I use the Bamboo one mostly, I do everything with that now, coloring and line art. It's a bit long to "master" but when you have, you can't draw without it^^

I use Open Canvas 1.1 (free) because it's more easy to have a fluid line and it's quite low in memory too.

I have a Bamboo fun. :P :iconarbok-x: has one, and it seems really great for the both of us. However, when I use it, the lineart can be a little shaky. =P I use the Pen tool when doing lineart, but whether you want to use it for outlining or not is entirely up to you. :)

Now I use the Tablet the most for coloring and shading, and this is where it gets really cool. When shading with the tablet, pen pressure is a given. :D For example, if you wanted to make the shading more soft, shade lightly with the pen. Vice versa if you want more of a hard shade. XP

There are quite a few tutorials of Tablets on dA IIRC. I'm just giving you the basics.
