It's an interesting idea, but it is basically the same as the people that just don't bother to comment back because there's so many... I think it's taking the emotion right out of the comments because you'll never know if you just got a chain letter or something that really means something. That's just my take on it.
I really don't know if this has been suggested before but I think it would really help a lot of people if there would be a button "select all" in the "who faved" window and send them one thank you message instead of visiting them 1 by 1. I hope I can explane this in a good way. I realize that if you fav, it already shows "thank you" but for a lot of people it's not enough. they still visit your gallery to leave a message. also by (adding this feature ) would make the messages ( *blahblah has added....)redundant. mind you that once a message was send to a person it is grayed out so you cannot send it again. you can only send it once, else it would be getting an easy spam tool
if this is not realizable than I would like to suggest make the the "thank you" popup message while faving, adjustable (maybe at the most 10 words) to personalize it a bit.
thank you for reading

I don't condsider that as spam, but I feel your suggest pulls the emotion out of it as was already said... An automated "Thank you" comment would be much more close to spam than copy pasta

At least that requires some effort and therefore has sincerity. An automated message has absolutely no sincerity in it and would effectively be just as bad as spam.

I don't think we should have auto messages for favs. I do agree that a customized message would be nice, but if you want to thank someone you can send them a note or something. I mean if you really wanted to save time you could just get all the names of people who faved your stuff, and send them all one note saying thanks.
