I'd be happy to give you more information.
you probably grew up taking classes like DARE that grouped all drugs together and lied to you. here's something you should know:
Many years ago, I believe in the mid 1900's, hemp (marijuana) was outlawed and the public was told that it was a health issue. the real reason was that hispanic farmers were successfully capitalizing on the usefullness of hemp, which was seen as a threat. Something you should understand about the government is that they utilize fear tactics in order to keep citizens in line. Its important to question what you learn in school or from other state programs.

now, as far as the addictiveness goes, marijuana is NOT physically addictive! it is possible to become psychologically addicted to marijuana, however it is possible to become psychologically addicted to ANYTHING! Think about it as if there was someone who would console themselves by eating cookies when sad. eventually, they crave cookies constantly because they've used it to fix their problems. you can become addicted even to another person! Saying that marijuana is addictive is ANOTHER tactic that the government uses, which is half a lie. they may as well say cookies are addictive because of cases like the one I wrote above. and guess what? marijuana is SAFER than cookies.

you may be thinking, then why do people go to drug rehab for marijuana? this is why. when you get caught with marijuana and you go to court, they may give you an ultimatum. they may say either go to jail or go to rehab. Jail is a terrible, overcrowded place where you would be staying with possible murderers, when all you did was use a harmless substance. almost everyone would rather choose rehab, where you still have rights. the government then takes these statistics and presents them to the public, saying that it is a huge problem. A problem that they formulated themself!

you meantioned that it can be helpful if taken in moderation: I agree. too much of anything is detrimental. but tell me, why is alcohol, something that kills hundreds of thousands of people, is physically and emotionally addictive, and is the leading cause of vehicular homicide still legal yet marijuana can't be? Ammendment 64 calls for the use and regulation of marijuana in a positive way. here are some things about the ammendment that you should know:
1. only those 21 and over can purchase and possess it.
2. you are only allowed a limited supply at any given time.
3. like alcohol, you may not drive under the influence.
4. you need a liscence to sell it still, like liquor.
5. the money will be used in order to help the state.

lets talk about money now. $40 million dollars annually from the tax money will be used to fund public schools. this means buying new books, expanding libraries, new programs in school (art, literature, PE, math), better equipment and so on. the rest of the money will build the state, like the broken roads you see on Colfax or the shitty buildings in 5 points near downtown. Tax money is generally used for this when you buy stuff like candy in the store, or when your parents get money deducted from their paychecks.

did you know that the Denver Police Department has been paying their officers using the money generated from marijuana sales in dispensaries already?? your safety is boosted because we are able to pay them to do more patrols using this money. and also, since marijuana will not be criminalized their will be more space for people who belong there. Jail overcrowding is such a big problem that a lot of times people do not serve their full sentences. they let them out to put more people in. a person who beat someone up may get out of jail weeks earlier, then go on to do it again. it makes the system lose credibility. it also costs a TON of money to house prisoners; why have harmless marijuana users in there and felons on the streets?

So in short, although marijuana can be abused like anything else, the pros outweigh the cons IMMENSELY! But one more thing you should know is that the effects of marijuana are also different from say alcohol or cocaine or something. you become more relaxed and your mind is able to think more abstractly. you typically are not stumbling around, unable to see or walk straight. I can garentee you run into tons of high people, in stores or at school or on the street and you weren't able to tell. of course, like we discussed if you overdo it you may become a temporary couch potato, but that's why we discussed moderation.

i hope this was a help; sorry for the wall of text. please ask me anything else you want to know! and also, please remember to do your research when issues like this come up; don't settle for letting schools or governments give you the nitty gritty, because these sources tend to have jaded agendas! :)

First off, I wanted to thank you for presenting a thorough and FACTUAL answer. I researched your points and saw that the facts you gave were true.

Yes, it was DARE that I had. I remember doing the whole DARE thing in the fifth grade a couple policemen came in an talked to us for a week on a daily basis. It was incredibly boring, but effective, the scenarios they presented never left my head.

I don't know if I have formed an opinion regarding the marajuana ammendment yet. i plan to dco further research, however, your points were accurate and I am thinking about this in a new light. I am a little ashamed to have been making a statement that I did withougt exploring the facts. Also, I was so suprised about the marajuana NOT being physically addictive. Right you are that ANYTHING can be phycologically addictive(ie I am totally addictive to art, always have been always will be!:) No denying or shame there!:)) but all joking aside, I appreciate your respectful informative answer and you not flaming me. I do have on final question. You mentioned you will think more "abstractly" and your more "relaxed" does this alter your personality in any way? What I mean is, what is the point to use the drug except for medical reasons. Say, someone want to use it to get the pleasure high that can be attained from it? Isn't that still a very dangerous? I guess you could get "high" on many things, but not to the extreme of altering yourself so much.
