I've already been reading this for a while, but now that Obama won the second term, the blame game has started. Who's to blame for Romney losing? Romney himself? The Tea Party? Chris Christie? Themselves?
gluzzmunk's avatar
Lots and lots of reasons that are solely based on opinion and facts mixed together from random people all over the world.
Black-Allison's avatar
Probably calling this so-called 47% of America, who according to Romney, needs to use government welfare to protect their family from starvation and give their children a future lazy ass bums had something to do with it. I have never known someone who won an election by calling the half of their population idiots.

Republicans have never bothered to cater to minority groups but white people are no longer a majority in the USA and their % of the total population is going to shrink even further. If Republicans think they can still get into office without making any effort to get minority votes then they can kiss goodbye to Congress and the presidency because it will be an uphill struggle from here.

They have only themselves to blame. They thought that playing the rigid, uncompromising act would get them into office. It failed and if they keep it up for another 4 years, they will fail again and will keep failing as their voter base shrinks.
Trorbes's avatar
The Republican party is still convinced that the only voter demographic of interest is the straight white male. This is why they had no problem with dismissing - if not outright insulting - women, gays, and non-whites and the issues which pertain to those groups, and generally acting like their own narrow self-interests are the only things which matter.

They'll continue to blame the Democrats for 'pandering' to 'minority voters,' but as the straight white male vote becomes much less significant to the overall vote, they'll need to adapt, or else die an ignoble, lonely death.
GalacticGoat's avatar
Based on what I've already seen in this forum they're blaming the ignorant/bums which are people that don't pay income tax or something equally ridiculous since they're convince anyone that's against republican is so on the basis they want free handout rather then... ya know... because the republicans are a group of detached old fart that don't understand how a country works and therefore have no room running a country.
Dkalban's avatar
meanus et al are in denial, and I dont mean the one in Egypt.

Its THEIR insane antics that drove people away from them
GalacticGoat's avatar
Indeed :/. I love how our local republitards just can't accept it their attitude that's chasing people away, not anything Obama is doing.

Obama could have said 0 this entire election and I still think he would have been re-elected based solely on the shit Romney and his ilk said in regards to stuff like low income people, rape, healthcare, gay marriage and other sensitive subjects.

Really just goes to show how much of manchildren they are. They can't even accept that they could have a hand in their failures, nope, its always everyone else being dumb! Because ya know women totally vote for Obama because they want handouts not because the representative of the republicans say stupid shit like women's don't get pregnant from "legitimate" rape because their bodies insta reject embryos after rape :| no couldn't be related to saying something so blatantly rapist apologetic and misogynistic.
tacosteev's avatar
Probably the postal service. Military absentee ballots were delivered late due to an earlier mis-delivering (is that even a word?) and might have swung the election in Romney's favor.

The answer, my friend, is the Electoral College - and Popular Vote. Simply put, commoners want us to become the next Soviet Union, apparently.
mondu's avatar
In other words, Romney lost because of democracy.
The-Golden-Knight's avatar
In a sense. I don't know how "democratic" the Electoral College is, however. I am skeptical about them, to be honest, as I'm always scrutinizing government in general, but that relates more to the direction the USA is heading as opposed to who won the Presidency.
RoyCura's avatar
Just to play the devil's advocate, didn't Bush beat Al Gore with the electoral vote in 2000?
The-Golden-Knight's avatar
Aye. And people hate Bush, ya? Supposedly, he accelerated our descent, and therefore Obama will follow suit. Why? Because that is the apparent job of the Electoral College. The Popular Vote says we consent to this person accelerating us towards descent.

Or that is my interpretation of our modern-day politics.
mondu's avatar
Obama also won the popular vote.
The-Golden-Knight's avatar
That just means the common people consent to his direction towards our downfall. It doesn't matter who wins or which faction you support. They're all ugly.

LadySuzaku's avatar
Blaming themselves would be effectively accepting responsibility for their failings and screw-ups. Which would lead them to accept the reality that they will have to change the way they run their party.

And they can't do that. They won't admit they screwed up. It would lead to them having to change. And they don't WANT to change. They feel 'safer' in their denial and ignorance. But in the end, it's self-defeating and it cost them the election.

Idk but whatever they've been doing it just shows their total ignorance. Whether it be saying capitalism does not redistribute wealth, we need to learn to speak Islamic (Apparently....), America is fucked, Obama raised Government Spending by 20%, too many blacks were allowed to vote, and many things in between. It is no wonder that Republicans lost when you see what their base has to say after losing. Just a bunch of Butt Hurt Bitches.

Victoria Jackson

Former "Saturday Night Live" star and comedian Victoria Jackson made headlines over the past year for some controversial comments, including a suggestion on her Internet talk show "Politichicks" that 1President Obama is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and suggestions on "The Howard Stern Show" that gay marriage will "make God mad."

After Obama's victory, Jackson, in a flurry of Internet posts, announced the death of America, telling her followers that she "can't stop crying," and taking Christians to task for not voting.

"America died," she wrote on her Twitter feed.2 "I can't stop crying. America died."

Jackson also posted on her Facebook page an image of a tombstone that said, "RIP America."

Later, she tweeted, 3"Thanks a lot Christians, for not showing up. You disgust me."

1
Probably a big reason why the Republicans lost. They're not in touch with reality.

2
Somehow the right to vote is meaningless if your side/preference doesn't win.
Again, out of touch with reality.

3
Apparently all the christians that voted Obama do not count.

Shameless self-quoting here:

Some are actually blaming Christie in NJ, which shows how laughably out of touch the 'leadership' for the right wing is.

The Republicans lost because they could only call on, cater to, and communicate with right/far right white religious dummies.

They lost the black vote (and not because Obama might be a little black), they lost the Latino vote (who are religious), they lost most of the female vote with their war on women, they lost the middle class vote with their penchant to suck corporate/billionaire cock, and despite their fanatical pro-Israel stance they even lost the Jewish vote.

I know the Muslim vote isn't a big key to the election, but they probably lost that too.

Obama won the youngest voters too. That's good for blue, bad for red.

I voted Gary Johnson and I am hoping his group hit the 5% mark so they're on all ballots in 2016.
OuroborosCobra's avatar
Gary Johnson was on ballots in my state.
EbolaSparkleBear's avatar
I think he made it to 47 or something. Not sure.

But the 5% showing would make Libertarians and automatic ballot presence instead of needing to get signatures all over again.

NJ must have really easy to meet standards because I had every third party on the ballot.
Including the white power Third Position people.

Since they didn't hit the 5% mark they have to do the longer application process again in 2016.
Unvalanced's avatar
Gary Johnson got 1% of the vote. Which doesn't sound like much, but Romney lost the popular vote by 2%, and historically libertarian candidates usually get around .3% of the vote.

(I considered voting Johnson, but ultimately elected to vote for an imaginary person. It better suited my disdain for the election.)
EbolaSparkleBear's avatar
1% is okay.

I wanted 5%:shakefist:

I was actually considering a write in vote for brain spiders. But I wanted to help Gary, not because I like Libertarians and their stupid daydream of lazy-fares, but because I liked some of his stances and I wanted red and blue to know I was not impressed with them.

None of the independents I voted for got a seat. :iconsobplz:

They'll call anyone who isn't in lockstep with them "RINO"

They pissed off way too many segments of society.

-Racist (Blacks)
-Xenophobic (Latinos/Immigrants)
-Cater only to the wealthy (Middle Class)
-Pro Israel to the point they'll endanger Israel (Jews)
-Hates students and wants to make things hard for the next generation (youth/students)
-Considers all Muslims extremists while giving Christian extremists a pass (Muslims/Jews/Christians/Atheists)
-Sided with rapists (women)
-Generally insane (anyone with a working brain)

Debit's avatar
The more the Repubes cater to the conservatives, and especially to the hard-right, the more voters they will alienate. Over the years, I have even run across columns and opinions written by (normally) pro-Republican moderates getting tired of politics of hate and paranoia. Meanwhile, the changing national demography conflicts with their white-male-conservative-plutocratic-blah-blah strategy.
tehbigd's avatar
I put it at four, really. Black, Latino, Gay, and woman. It seemed like they took special efforts to piss off every non-white male at one point or another. Without efforts to reach out to Blacks (it's a lost cause, here, just don't be evil and you might, in a few decades, have an in-road), Latinos (immigration), Gays (just give up fighting), and Women (not acting like misogynists), they're going to continue to lose big elections, while likely gaining on mid-terms (when having a rabid base helps the most).
EbolaSparkleBear's avatar
I'm not sure the upcoming midterms are a done deal for team red.
While team blue isn't taking control of the House or losing the senate, they might close the gap in the House.
tehbigd's avatar
They tend to do very well in midterms, but doing well in every election other than the Presidency is not a good position.
EbolaSparkleBear's avatar
If Obama applied his campaign's ground game to key votes in the House and Senate for the midterms things could change dramatically in this country.

I know that requires a lot of money and commitment from the Dems, but they should do it.
LadySuzaku's avatar
'I put it at four, really. Black, Latino, Gay, and woman. It seemed like they took special efforts to piss off every non-white male at one point or another.'

Bad move and it cost them. More than half the U.S. population is made up of women and same for non-Whites. They are the majority of this country now and the Republican Party refused to accept that. They catered exclusively to what is now a shrinking minority; white, privileged males. That strategy doesn't work anymore. They weren't inclusive.

Now they're paying for it.
tehbigd's avatar
It doesn't even matter if they're privileged or not. If you're only trying for white males, you are shooting for a minority. If you're only shooting for white people, you're shooting for a disappearing majority. If you're only shooting for men? Slim majority (if that), and you're losing because many men think misogyny is not a good management plan.

The biggest, boldest mistake is his party pissing off Latino voters. They would do themselves a lot of future good if they laid off the anti-immigration talk and stopped supporting Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

They've already started blaming the poor, specifically, "the lazy ass unemployed who would rather sit on their asses and take handouts from the government than contribute to the nation." Quote courtesy of a Republican cousin of mine's reaction to the election results on facebook. I have seen the electoral college blamed as well.
Dkalban's avatar
They are pulling out an ideology from the freaking Victorian ages

Their beloved Ayn Rand only repackaged the loathsome philosophy of Utilitarianism
empiredice's avatar
Oh I'd say it predates Victorian...more like the middle ages, with welfare as witchcraft and the middle class as serfs that don't realize they're serfs because once in a while, the lords come to the fields and take one away to become a knight, convincing the rest that if they work hard one day they'll all be lords too.
Dkalban's avatar
True, the middle ages was when the guilds (unions) and thus the Middle Class began

The elites have been trying to make us serfs again ever since!
empiredice's avatar
No, we are serfs. There's no trying here. Think about it, we're even tied to the "land." The norm is that your job decides where and how you can live, not the other way around. Especially true for those in the mid-range middle class and below. We even get transferred with the company in a takeover. Seriously, trickle down capitalism IS modern feudalism.
Dkalban's avatar
Then I think a revolution is needed.

Put the Kochs and Adelsons and etc on trial!

O'Reilly blamed Hurricane Sandy. Ditto Dick Morris (but with a side order of Blame Chris Christie! as well).
Rush is blaming voters for being stupid.
Fox News is blaming media bias.
Random posters on forums and news comments sections are blaming Romney for being weak (lol! and he was the best they had next to loony out-of-touch Paul). Those not blaming Romney are blaming Ryan for not being <insert alternative candidate here>.

I've been reading posts on websites like Hot Air and National Review (for the lulz and butthurt), and many of the posters are actually blaming THE SITES for being dishonest and giving them false hope on skewed polls and the like. It's funny to see them finally realise what living in an echo chamber does to you.

Yes, and Governor Christie in NJ.

Which I really didn't get and still don't. He praised Obama for his aid and support. He gave Christie his phone number, for God's sakes and told him to call if he needed anything!!! That's the kind of thing your buddy does! Gov. Christie properly thanked him.

And what happens??? People get all in a huff and tell Christie he's a horrible person for not being on the campaign trail with Romney because he was busy helping his state recover from a massive hurricane that devastated New Jersey!

What. The. Hell???
EbolaSparkleBear's avatar
hahahaha!

I know!

Far righties have claimed Christie's "endorsement" cost Romney the election.

His posts alone are enough to display his total lack of charisma, logic and ability to argue points effectively that are based in sound reason, logic and supported fact.

The guy couldn't form an effective militia of cats and even if he could, all they'd do is turn the rose garden into the world's most upscale, outdoor litter box, use the Lincoln Bed as a scratching post and catch mice just to drop them on the president's desk or on the Oval Office rug.

All Schemer's little 'militia' would succeed in doing is making people nauseous!
