Comment on Exams by nosedivve

My state decided to make all high schoolers who have taken certain classes (except for the seniors, unless they didn't pass last year's exam) to take these new tests. The freshmen get seven chances if they get to take it now, sophomores get six, juniors get three, and seniors get one. That's the plus-side (second chances are great).

The negative is that on top of state exams we're also having midterms, on the same days, and regular class tests. The teachers have no mercy. I guess that's fair though.

Welcome to my world. I have midterms and finals and I took all the provincial exams before.
Most likely, your state exams will not be way harder than your school midterms and finals, so just study and you'll get it done when you get it done.

I would normally say "Yay! I'm done with school!" :iconyaayplz:

BUT... I'm stuck looking for a job with money dwindling and school loans looming! I'd rather go back to high school. :noes:

I am aware, from what I've heard, how life after school is much harder, but I am still stressed out. That was the point of this compliant, haha.

That really does suck though, and I hope you find a job!
cake-fiend's avatar
We had those in my high school. They were really easy. No one studied for them.
nosedivve's avatar
Yes, the standardized tests are easy, however mid-terms and the others aren't easy as the standardized tests. (That's really sad on the state's part)
cake-fiend's avatar
I'm not seeing what the complaint is then.
nosedivve's avatar
Really? I thought I was being whiny in my original statements. Hm, well, my compliant is just having to take so many exams, quizzes, tests, ect. in two weeks time.

I'm the avatar and you gotta deal with it!

Sorry, that was my immediate reaction. XD
But yes, I'm dealing with it, I have established that it is all fair anyways.
WizardOfUnseen's avatar
Soon, all this will not matter much anyways
nosedivve's avatar
The standardized tests don't matter at all, because they don't count since I'm in 10th grade, but if I don't pass them in 12th grade I can't graduate.
WizardOfUnseen's avatar
I know, but you will be able to judging by how serious you are about these exams
nosedivve's avatar
Oh okay. Thank you.

Wait till you start college. I have university exams next week and 3 2000 words essays to type due the week after. >.>
nosedivve's avatar
Wow. That is a lot of work. I'm sorry.
Somnusvorus's avatar
No need to apologise. If you want to go to college and do well, you have to do a lot of hard work and the work load will increase. Third Level Education is completely different ball game from Second Level. =S

Aaaaghhh, the American educational system.
CrimeRoyale's avatar
What are these tests?
nosedivve's avatar
Standardized state tests, mid-terms, chapter tests, vocab test, poetry test, various chemistry tests, ect.
CrimeRoyale's avatar
Pfffft.... Didn't have any of this horseshit when I was in high school. Sucks for you, chief.
nosedivve's avatar
They seem to add more as the years go by.

State standardized testing is generally painfully easy. The high school exit exam in my state is apparently laughable, and usually everyone passes it (except the non-English speakers).

Your life is so hard.

No, wait, it's not. If you've studied, you should do fine. :B
nosedivve's avatar
I don't study for standardized state tests; they're easy. I just don't like them being sprung on me. (I just found out I had to take these last week or something, and they don't even count)
MasterPlanner's avatar
Well, good luck then :D

California instituted a standardized test that high school students had to pass in order to graduate quite a few years ago (I think I took it as a sophomore, in 2003 or 2004). Any 8th grade student in my district should have been able to pass it easily, but apparently there were students throughout the state that were repeatedly failing it (and, even worse, in my high school). :| Also... it only tested math and English.

Standardized tests are lame.
nosedivve's avatar
I agree that standardized tests are lame.

:sarcasticclap: You don't know exam hell until they put one at 7AM the day you get back after Christmas break and there ends up being more tests in a month than days in a month
nosedivve's avatar
Oh wow. That's harsh.

T -shirts were made. :paranoid:

If its those standardized tests that all schools :/ once kids know it doesn't effect your grades etc. they will mark anything for answer. I did since those tests are more of a waste of time.

i have exams tomorrow, oh the stress....

At least most high school standardized tests are a joke. Still stressful and annoying though. Good luck. :(

True, true. Thank you! :)

I just saw the word exams, and I already feel bad for you. :iconmanhugplz:

nosedivve's avatar
Huh, interesting.
awesomeizzy's avatar
I have exams, but only two. It'll be fine. :la:
nosedivve's avatar
Oh, okay, that seems to be good! :la:
awesomeizzy's avatar
And one of them is easy. :la:
nosedivve's avatar
That's always the best part! :la:

i have my English exam in 2 days :stare: and the i might fail due to the government deciding to change the mark boundaries :x
awesomeizzy's avatar
I missed all that. I did mine in January last year, and it was June when they started to up the grade boundaries.
kawaii-cookies's avatar
:stare: you lucky thing! :noes:
awesomeizzy's avatar
I got an A for that English exam. When the whole controversy in August (following results) was around, I decided I was so glad that I'd taken the exam in January not June. :la:
Now I just have AS levels. :saddummy:
Anyway, on the bright side, you don't have to do what my brother does and take all of his exams at the end of year 11. :P
gvcspecks's avatar
hah, i heard about the end of year exams and i am so glad i missed it by a year or two.
kawaii-cookies's avatar
true  but I have to take English twice due to a higher chance of getting better marks
awesomeizzy's avatar
Isn't there something about them not actually releasing January grades until August? I know someone who said something about that.

My exams start tomorrow and end next thursday.

That really sucks! If you usually do well in English, I think you'll do fine. (:
gvcspecks's avatar
my first is tomorrow as well, dreading it...
nosedivve's avatar
I hope you did good on them and will continue to do well!

My first day went quite nicely.
gvcspecks's avatar
my exam didn't go bad thanks, what exam did you do out of interest?
kawaii-cookies's avatar
I hope so :stare:

good luck also
nosedivve's avatar
Just reaaaally take your time if you don't feel confident that you'll pass.

Thank you! :la:

Testing for what, exactly
nosedivve's avatar
The exams are just state tests about things we should have learned already, midterms are just on things we've learned so far in classes (midterm for every class), and regular tests are just tests my teachers give out regularly.
Benjamin-Biddix's avatar
eh, well, glad i'm not in high school anymore! :stare:
nosedivve's avatar
Hah, yeah, that's good I guess.
