AGREED.

The only two heroes like that who are *kind of* interesting are Luke Skywalker and Harry Potter--in my humble opinion. They're dull, but very likable. Most other protagonists though are so boring that I wish they'd hurry up and leave the scene, so I could see the more interesting supporting characters.

For that reason, when I write stories, I don't actually like to have one chosen protagonist. Sure, I'll have one character who's "bigger," but the POV and heroics are divided between characters, when I write.

Totally. It's like they're too relatable or something. They're nice, they're fair, they're brave, they do the right thing.

I usually have a main character (I'm not too good at wrapping my head around multiple POVs yet.) but I always make sure to check if one of the side characters were telling the story, would my main character be interesting? Or would he just be a redundant boring guy?

That's a good way to do it!

I really hate the belief that "average" = "relatable." Because no real person is that boring. And when you ask people, "What fictional character do you most relate to?" they often reply with the name of a sidekick or villain.
