I see. Even so, I feel my suggestion still remains because cartoons are representing reality in a stylized way. Since long jaws are characteristics of most canines, it helps in recognizing that this is a wolf, and not a cat. It's possible to draw a cartoon wolf with a short muzzle, but I am not sure how to do that. Maybe the mouth larger and longer when not smiling, so when he smiles, the mouth is pulled more back.
