What's this about?

Our second oldest ferret passed away today. Yesterday he started acting really funny and at first we thought he was just not feeling well. Then as the day went on, he started getting more and more weaker. My mother and "him" took him to a clinic (that actually specializes in ferrets) earlier today in hopes of getting him some help. Turns out he had fluid in his lungs; they first used a needle to try draining them. Afterward they recommended surgery--that would've costed over 700 to perform. ("He" was all for just putting him down, but mother wanted to give him an x-ray and see if there was any chance.)

Zippy ended up having a lot more problems than we first thought. Enlarged glands, two diseases of sorts, way more fluid than expected...

In the end, putting him out of his misery was perhaps the best option.

I shed some tears when I heard the news, but my brother took it more harder than I did.

Zippy was his favorite, and Zippy always seemed to like my brother more in turn...

I've dealt with two rabbits dying in my arms some years ago, my mother's cockatiel died just last year, and now one of our ferrets has joined them...
...Why does life have to be so painful?

(Sorry if my before comment seemed to be from out of nowhere.)

Yes, it did seem a bit out of nowhere but now I understand. Death is hard to deal with. Especially when it's someone close to you who passes and you see them suffer before you. And I know from experience that there really isn't much anyone can say that will really be comforting in these situations. But what does help is sticking close to those who are still with you. And appreciate them. Friends are good for these situations. :pat:
