As for showing the "My Friends" list w/ purdy icons:

Short Answer: Become a Subscriber

Long Answer: While it's a susbcriber only feature, you can sorta do it yourself. You can make your own in a journal entry. To add an icon of a deviant to a comment or journal, use the following (though omitting spaces) : icon username :
So, for example, if I wanted to add your icon to my journal, I'd type : icon artystic : (as one word) making:
