You got a dev-art account! Yay! **glomps** ^_^ Don't worry, I will help you out with everything.
Basically, you control everything on your main page (this one) with the Journal, Profile, and Settings buttons in the upper right hand corner when you are logged in. You can have things like a bio of yourself, a journal, your pictures, favorite pictures, desktop pictures, etc. all on this page.
The part on this page that says 'watched by' kia-shinigami, means that I've added to to my dev-art watch list. Basically, it's like the favorite artist list at fanart-central, but whenever someone on your lists posts a new journal, or art, you get a message in your message center (it tells you you have one right under the words deviantart at the top of the page when you are logged in.)
The submit process....teh picture has to be saved as a jpg or else you need a preview image...I'm not sure how to do that, so I just use jpg. If you click on the dot thing to chose a category when submiting art, at the bottom of the list, a description of the category will appear. Like 'traditional art' is art created through non-technological ways, such as pencils and paper. You chose the method of production there, and then click submit. Then you chose which theme category it goes in. The same deal goes here, if you click on one, it's description will appear at the bottom. Anime fanart goes under fanart rather then anime. Anime is for anime style things you have made up. Then you approve the categories, and type a description of your artwork, and pick a file to submit.
When you go to someone's page, stats on on the top right side, and some info is on the left. The buttons below that help you do things. General is this page. Gallery is all their art. Scaps are sketchy half-done art, journal is their journal, activity, is a list of things they've done, send note, is to send them a note, which will appear in their message center, and +deviant watch will add them to your watch list, and you'll get an update of art when they submit.
Oh, and in deviantart speak, you (an artist) are a 'deviant', and anything you create (poem, pictures, etc) is a 'deviation'. Just a little slang there you'll need to know.
