Yeah I get that, my French teachers weren't the best either. Luckily I did an exchange program for three months! I ended up being one of like...three people in that class who could actually form a sentence in French.
Regarding your username: Strictly speaking, it should be either "DerPestArzt" or "DiePestÄrztin" because it's der Arzt (male) or die Ärztin (female). In German you have a female version for everything, I guess to make it equal or something? Still, it's totally legit for a woman to say "Ich bin Arzt". Just not the other way around! What I'm trying to say is even though you're female, you can still use "Arzt" if that's what you prefer.
Technically speaking, you could even go with "DerPestarzt"/"DiePestärztin" without the capital A because in German you can combine everything basically, as you might be aware.
But I think it looks better the way you wrote it, also makes it easier to read!
