I enjoy research a lot, sometimes more than actually doing the project itself

well, seeing how I have two nations based of pre-columbian cultures surviving and evolving till modern day, it's good to know something about them first

And I'll say this, while everyone knows about the southern civilizations like the Aztecs, Maya, and Inca, the northern ones are rarely done justice
the ones seen in movies are usually a mix of the "prairie tribes" and the north-west "forest tribes"
interesting the north-west tribes ever built totem poles

Many however don't know how advanced some of these people were
The north-east Iroquis people were farmers who built wooden houses and lived it cities
The south-east Mississippi culture built cities with fortifications, and built houses out of BRICKS upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia…
(and they also preformed human sacrifices in the form of burring people alive)
And the south west "Pueblo people" built multi-storied buildings out of rocks and clay, similar to modern apartment complexes! upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia…  www.digital-images.net/Images/…

Interesting, I wonder why they are less well-known?

not sue, maybe Americans are just too damn proud to admit that there was any sort of civilization before their arrival
till this day, some W.A.S.P.s like to think of themselves as some kind of saviours who brought civilization to a bunch of half-naked savages
the very idea that the previous inhabitants were doing just fine on their own kinda diminishes their credit

then there's also the fact that the hunter-gather tribes of the plains put-up the most resistance, and in fact lasted the longest (they kept fighting the colonists till early 20th century), which kinda helped engraving them into America's general consciousness, and made them synonymous with the idea, and seeing how Americans love their stereotypes...

in reality, the original tribes of North America  were a very varied bunch

they are divided in two ways
by their type of culture, and by language

the cultural categories:
The Inuit people
Subarctic tribes
Northeaster tribes
Southeaster tribes
The Plains tribes
Plateau tribes
The Great Basin tribes
Northwest tribes
Southeaster tribes
The California tribes

by language:
Algic
Caddo
Eskimo-Aleut
Hokan
Iroquoian
Kiowa–Tanoan
Kutenai
Muskogean
Na-Dene
Penutian
Salishan
Sioux
Uto-Aztecan (yes, these tribes are related to the Aztecs)
Wakashan
