Wellcome to DA, I am new too and I'm not so good as you, but I'm trying. I don't think that you are too old, nobody is to old to make what they like.
I hope see more of your art.
OK, I have seen your recent submissions in Prismacolor, and it's...well, it's amazing! The overall tone, color and shade are quite rich. How deep your color and shade all depends on the hand stroke, isn't it?

Thank you! I think the stroke is not as important as building up your tones. It is good to start with mid-tones and then go in with highlights and shades. The key is to do this in layers keeping the pencils good and sharp. It is like making a painting but not messy. i hope you get some Prismas for Christmas!
Oh, so that means to get the desired shading, you can blend different colors and then go until you get the right shading.
I never received a set of Prismacolor this Christmas, but had received a pantograph instead. It is a drafting tool used to enlarge drawings, and I tried it out immediately on a sample photograph and tried to enlarge the outline on paper, and then proceeded with my usual coloring stlye of ink and crayons. Now I can enlarge different drawings more accurately, instead of trying to imitate the actual picture freehand.
But I hope that I'll get a set of prisma soon, and where can I find the right paper to get the best results?

I get mine from either Michael's or AC Moore craft stores. I like AC Moore better- more stuff and better prices. The one here doesn't carry the Canson and Winsor and Newton single sheets of paper, though. They only have pads. You can always go to dickblick.com if those stores are not available.
