Cool stuff for a student starting out. The lesson I learnt with photography ( As it's merely a hobby to me ) is to just ALWAYS have some form of a camera with you at all times. There's nothing more frustrating than seeing something perfect to snap and you're without a camera. The only reference you have to that moment then is a memory.
I take my Digital SLR with me on every car journey, my snapshot when i go out & my phone when I go to places I can't trust. Sure there might be a difference in quality, but any picture can look great with a little manipulation. And you'll always have that picture for the rest of your life.
