Hence what I commented on my profile prior to yours. It was going to be my reply before she blocked me. People like her are why you hear about exotic animals 'turning' on their owners. They want something neat and different, and aren't prepared mentally for what the animal needs. So the animal gets neglected, and they eventually pay in blood when their karma catches up.
She's lucky she is only after a hedgehog, and not something like a serval, lynx, or other predatory mammal. Those kinds of animals cannot be 'given back' once they bond with their owner, which they view as family. Any attempt to do so would result in extreme stress for the animal, and extreme danger for any who got them next.
