Well, I wouldn't use stars in a design. Stars are hard for some people to draw.
Keep not only your own interests, but the buyer's interests in mind when making an adoptable.
For example, I wouldn't want to buy a dog with brown stripes. The design is too simple, and other people would probably think the same thing.
Try adding more than one marking, but make sure they are also easy to draw.
Also, pro tip. Don't use Photoshop brushes, or textures. They are both hard to replicate and hard to draw.
