I second the "addictive" comment. I've watched this about three times now. I like watching the sketching and shading bit at the beginning for some reason - it's fun watching him come together so smoothly. Thanks for posting this! I'm inspired now.
Watching you paint is dangerously addictive. I think it has a vicarious quality that's probably behind some of it, but jeez. Seeing the decision-making processes is great - I was rather surprised by just how much feature-tweaking you did, although I probably shouldn't have been. It's astounding how much you work into an image and how quickly - particularly to me with how little you erase in the painting stage, as I use undo as a crutch myself. It's probably good you don't have many of these online or I'd never work...
Actually, I do use the "undo" feature. Not often, but every now and then. Mostly, I figure I can just paint over it. I was unhappy with his mouth in this one, so I spent a lot of time painting and repainting it. And I didn't include the thumbnail sketch phase where I was trying to decide how he was positioned.

Yeah, it was awesome to watch. Thanks for sharing. I love seeing other people's techniques... I'm curious... How'd you make the video? Mind sharing you tech secrets?
Specs for this video: working on a Mac laptop, running Corel Painter IX. Used Snapz Pro for the video screencap (this is a neat tool that will also do still screencaps, and will allow you to record voiceovers as you do video screencaps for tutorials and such). Then I dropped it into iMovie to edit and speed it up (the upload process is SLOW, but worth it). I'm fiddling now with adding music to a quick paint I did yesterday with Garage Band.
Then I exported it to Quicktime, and uploaded it via YouTube.
ohho! alas, I have a PC... but it always seems like it would be fun to get in there and edit your own movies. My hubby has a mac tho... how do you like iMovie?
It... works. It's a little unintuitive at first, but after you get the hang of it (usually by the time you're done editing your first video) it's not too bad. It's just SLOW. The process of importing the film can take most of the day, and editing it takes even longer than that.
Whether it's worth it or not... eh. I'm still fiddling with it.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
