ACTUALLY the difference between a marimba and a xylophone is the pipes underneath it that cause a different sound by allowing it to reverberate more, giving it a much fuller sound and allowing it to hold onto notes longer without rolling. Xylophones have very short pipes, only truly serving the purpose of amplifying it...a marimba has much longer ones. Vibraphone has about the same length pipes as marimba but has a little disk that spins that creates a verbratto and a sustain pedal much like on a piano.
...and to remember all those notes. It's the same thing over and over again in the same exact order. The real challenge is...which octave is which?!
