Yeah, I totally agree with you. And sadly, I *have* been considering getting a subscription so I can remove the ads because it messes with my space, and I had everything nicely organized. It sucks that not many people have been talking about it...
Considering how common it is to see people making a fuss about the smallest issues on DevArt, it's more than a little creepy to see so little about a fairly big issue.

I ignore all adds by instinct so it doesn't drive me crazy but it doesn't make me any less angry that they're there, smudging up my gallery for others either.
They're probably getting paid more for doing this so odds are they'll ignore it until people finally deal with it more silently or leave, which in any case seems acceptible. Corperations always work that way. Unless they're testing reactions but it's hard for me to believe they'd not expect a lot of negative feedback. Alas, I ramble in tired blubberiness.
I just think there is a threshold between discreet ads and obnoxious ads and maybe for some we haven't reached that line yet, but for me we have. I ignore most ads too, though very rarely I do see an ad on devart that catches my eye. But there are so many that just look unimpressive and ugly.
I get the feeling they are trying to pretend it's no big deal. It makes sense as a logical strategy; to acknowledge the problem would suggest they have to deal with it. They can continue to pretend they haven't heard or seen any protests about the ads if they say nothing.
I joined Devart because they seemed to be different and more about the community but I really get the impression sometimes that all that stuff is meant to pay lip service and foster an illusion of hosting an "art mecca" which is really a complex business model.

From what I read yesterday their contract keeps changing saying they're required to post an add on every page etc. I personally don't think you can do that putting it anywhere without being obnoxious. The lady they have doing public relations type crap on the subject also keeps bringing up subscribing etc to get rid of them rather than stating any willingness to change them in most cases.
A brand new monthly article which showcases some of deviantART's finest equine artists, as well as recognizing the lesser-known but equally talented ones. Interviews, helpful tutorials and features can all be found here too! I hope you enjoy it.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
The idea of this contest is to set you up completely blind with a mythical being - from any world culture - and turn you loose to come up with a deviation based around it!
