oh wow thats too cool, always wanted a straitjacket! the head restraint is bizarre - what does it do exactly except make you very uncomfortable? is it fixed to the jacket?

It is standard for the time those were most commonly used. No, it is not attached to the jacket, and it covers the mouth and restricts head movement from the neck, so a person could not bite or spit.

fascinating. never seen that type of head restraint before. obviously they can't be still in use... can they? geez i should really do my homework! what time period did it originate from?

p.s. sorry to bother you with all these dumb questions!

I doubt they are still in use. Now chemical restraints and isolation are used more. I have no idea the time period. Perhaps the photographer would know... given it was all his.
