Yeah Harmony Gold Sued FASA and could have won the suit except they messed up during the discovery phase and released 3 pages of info that actually hurt their case. So, Both companies ended up settling out of court. (Basically FASA agreed to not use any Macross designs.) FASA never lost the lawsuit though. They could still use most of the other non Macross designs at this time..

BUT,

Then FASA sued PLAYMATES over EXOSQUAD. EXOSQUAD completely ripped off Battletech images.

In 2007 Randall N. Bills finally explained that FASA had sued Playmates over the use of images owned by FASA, but received no compensation, even though Playmates was ordered to stop using the images in question. After realizing how the use of licensed images made them vulnerable to lawsuits and afraid that such a suit would bankrupt the company, FASA made the decision to only use images owned by them and them alone. The BattleMechs taken from the various anime sources were then considered "Unseen".

And those original "ripped" drawings fit in more with BattleTech than the current "reseen" incarnations, a lot of which look like they're done in the Manga Art style, and are comparatively just under-detailed from the original "technical" drawings and even those of the limited perspective drawings of the OmniMechs in the 3050 tech readout.
