Yeah. My pastels are...well, bad. They don't blend right, and all of the colors stick when I try to draw. *Sigh*
Ooh. Squishy pastels you say? I must look for them!

Here's a link to what the Portfolio pastels look like: [link] I use the 24-pack. They're cheap and really nice to work with. I love Dick Blick (the site); they sell all kinds of really great art supplies for low prices! :D

I don't know if this helps, but a trick I used for blending pastel is to color in dots or streaks--take a couple of colors and just go really fast and nick the paper a little with each color, almost like pointillism. You can build up the colors over time and get some really fantastic patterns and textures, and individual mistakes don't matter. :)

Ooooh! Thanks! Hmm...I should probably upload my eye...nonono, not that eye. I did one in art this year, and it was all in pastel. Everyone was gaping at it...they were all saying, 'How did you do that?' and I just shrugged.
Gah. Yeah...that one took me around 10 hours to complete with all of the colors; we weren't allowed to use black for the pupil or anything. And the browns and greens had to be mixed from, say, reds and blues.

Thanks again! ^_^
