I can't say how long it takes to finish it all but there are about 95 episodes which are roughly 40 minutes each. My grandma got the DVD set as a gift so I just borrowed it from her. I'm sure you can order the set online from ebay or someother place online.

One really interesting thing I heard about the Mahabharat is that every situation that ever happened in history can relate one way or another to something that happened in the Mahabharat and it is hard to find something that doesn't relate to it. This is why I find the Mahabharat such a fascinating epic.
