The reason I made the patterns this size was because it was the smallest I could get of the shape I wanted. So, yes, but if you change the pattern, you will also have to change the shape. (unless your ears are really small) it will end up being more round-ish with a smaller tip at the end. Plus with a smaller tip, you may not be able to put in as many designs.
In general, when you get the pattern, cut as much as you want off the tip, and then perhaps a little off the sides. (don't cut any off the bottom) and if you want to do any more than that, test around with it to see if it still works.
