Comment on Erik's Face by Artoveli

Yeah, totally agree.
I saw the muscial, and there he at least had some really nasty wounds and such, like really bad. His hair fel out, his entire face was deformed and even from up where I sat I was like "Holy shit!". THAT is a deformity!
But Gerard, or Gerik, or whatever, had just a bad sunburn or something like that. And when HE pulled off his mask I was like "is that it???" if I were Christine, in the movie, I wouldn't have trouble choosing. I mean, he wasn't ugly at all... just a but mentally messed up because everybody told him he was ugly.

Seriously. They really dropped the ball on that one. :XD:

Yeah :)
Gerik has a serious minority complex. Lol!
And the directors of the movie forgot what a "horrifying and messed up" actually meant.
Still like the movie though, but they really dropped on that point indeed! Such an anticlimax :) After having seen Christine and Erik totally freak when she pulled of his mask first I was like "That must be horrific!" and when I actually saw it... "Dude...! It's not THAT bad... that's what you get from scratching acne! My dad had the same over his entire face so stop fussin' "

I've got other issues with the movie besides that, but that's such a glaring problem! :XD: Oh well, I'll just go back to the OLC and imagine my own visuals. :aww:

Yeah, but I still think the movie is quite good/nice to watch, they also used the opportuity to use multiple 'sets' at the same time well to show Erik backstage messing with stuff. Sometimes things weren't entirely clear in the musical, and I was practially till the end convinced that he was an ACTUAL phantom, while the movie shows much better that he is just walking behind the stage, nothing magical about that. (and in the musical they made him shoot fireballs. Which looked pretty epic, but only confirmed my thoughts of Erik being a real phantom...)
But one of the bad things is that the movie seems to value sex appeal over story, and they just focuss too much on Erik being the poor dude, while my first thoughts of him were more a mix.

It's that over-sexuality that mostly gets me, as well as ridiculous inaccuracies in the timeline. But I agree that there were some things that really came out nicely, such as the visuals of the sets and costumes, and Carlotta was fantastic. :D

Yeah, agree :)
Also I think that Gerard did a pretty good job for not a 'real' opera/musical singer, some say he has no singing voice, but I like it actually :) and the sets, yeah, those were awesome! (though I prefer the part where they go down for the first time in the musical, when I saw that part first it was SO magical! And also very clever to use smoke as water, etc. really expanded what I thought what was possible on stage! Water?? WHY NOT! :D HAH!)
Also like the part in the movie where the backstage guy gets hung by Erik, in the muscial that kinda came out of the blue, and I was like "wtf did he kill HIM!?" and now was clear that the stageworker saw him, and he had to do something about it...

Hm, we'll have to agree to disagree on the Gerard point because I really think his voice was a terrible choice for that part. Don't get me wrong, I like Gerard Butler in other movies, and was actually pretty excited to see that they had cast him before the movie came out. But having seen the result I REALLY wish they had gone with someone else. I thought Emmy Rossum was also kind of a limp noodle in the role of Christine, though much of that probably had to do with the direction.
