well i'm working on a intuos3 a5 size... and my desktop (dual screen) is 2944px wide. tablet size isn't everything. like size in general. 
but i must admit that my machine is pretty much uptodate. big advantage.

4"x5" Wacom ArtPad II here, from the days of the serial port. It's actually a nice pad, and the pen is good too, but I wouldn't mind something bigger that I could use a real pencil with.
