Where are you getting that animation studios are bent on destroying 2D animation? If you had done proper research, you would know that 3D productions use 2D a lot in order to visualize some sequences that would be otherwise difficult to do straight off the computer. In order to even be considered for a job in the CGI animation field, you HAVE to understand 2D animation and its principles because it all applies to 3D animation as well. 2D animation isn't dead, just not as popular right now. It's no different from how older cartoons were done entirely by traditional means compared to now where many TV cartoons are done with Flash.
I'm not trying to change your opinion, but at least let your opinion on 3D animation be an educated one.
