This is really amazing i love the soft shades, I am so shocked you did this from scratch/

Well thank you!

I will be honest, these aren't entirely from scratch%just 95%ish.

I start with a bottom layer which is photo which I've heavily manipulated. I'll then start a new layer and begin to paint overtop.
Ultimately, I use the photo as a guide.
These turn out to be like 60 layers or something like that. They take a very very long time partially because I'm no photoshop expert and screw around with filters and tools until I get what I want.
The eyes themselves comprise of about 15 layers just in and of themselves. The softness is an artistic choice but I like keeping the eyes with more defined lines.
Though the most annoying parts are the ears and the lips!

For an example of how these start out, the face on this started out as Monica Bellucci!

I thought i was alone when i always had 50 layers in photoshop and randomly screwed with random paints and brushes with filters !

Hahaha! No, no you're not.

I've found that to get what I want, I have to use a lot of layers. I try to collapse layers down as soon as I know I'm not going to change it anymore. That and in a lot of cases, I have to.

So I will shamelessly, and proudly, say I need six billion layers to get an image like this. Doesn't help that I do all of this by mouse, or mouse track pad on my laptop. My friend who is a graphic artist by profession says that it's like drawing something with a rock.

One day, I will remember what all the bloody filters in Photoshop do however, and I won't waste so much time screwing around with them. :D

One day.

I also draw evereything with a mouse , I actually have an intuos4 but my parents took it up and have not used it in a year , it is torture.

OH NO! Damn parents!

I used to own a Waccom tablet, a long long time ago, but then my husband lost the stylus on me and I have yet been able to convince myslef to buy a new one. They better I get on using a mouse, the less incentive I have. Buuuuuuut, I still want one.

Good work with being so successful with your commissions!
Art is never a bad thing, but school work is incredibly important. (I work for a non profit organization which focuses on education of students up to high school when I'm not doing my art ;) ) I won't get into the shpeel about why it's so important but yeah . . .
Find the balance that you can do both and you'll go far if your already experiencing success! :)
