Oh - I didn't interpret anything as an insult!
The weapon was powered in such a way that it would recharge after use (like regenerative health)
Memory is a bit fuzzy on this - but I think the game designers didn't want to worry about pick-ups like ammo/energy. I might be wrong though! But the weapon was supposed to be fully loaded at the start and not needing too much except time to recharge from its power supply.
